People and Flowers
I have been a very negligent blogger; apologies to my legions of faithful readers. Right now I'm only posting to avoid doing some writing work that I have to do for actual money. I'm a bad girl. So spank me.
This weekend has been a good one -- busy but in a good way. We had our friends and their boys over for supper yesterday and had a good time. Our kids are very close and comfortable with each other, so it was kind of like a big family affair. One incredible thing about this get-together was that our friend, who works for a flower importer, brought us two dozen roses and three bouquets of daisies. So we now have a huge bouquet of white and red long-stem roses on one table and a huge bouquet of white and yellow daisies on another. I'm surrounded by gorgeousness of the floral kind. I feel kind of guilty about it, like I don't deserve to be graced with this kind of beauty.
Today we had our old neighbour over for lunch. She's 90 and after she moved away from the house next door she suffered a whole lot of health problems, including a heart attack and pneumonia. We invited her for Christmas dinner but she had to cancel because she wasn't well enough. (We brought the dinner to her, but that's not the same.) So we were very happy to finally have her over and see her well and happy and full of vim like she always was. I think she enjoyed it, and she was full of admiration for our fantastic flower arrangements! My daughter is going to go over and help her out with some work in her new apartment, and maybe take her out for occasional walks around the grounds of her complex. My girl likes older people, and always did good things for this lady when she lived next door, but she (the ex-neighbour) has always shown a marked preference for my son, who seems to makes her laugh with delight just by smiling at her. I think he's going to have that effect on plenty of women in his life, old and young.
Life is good and I'm feeling human again, after taking a long time to recover from the craziness of the project I'd been working on since January. Today's rain is going to coax those leaves and flowers out of their buds and the greening of our world will kick into high gear. There's a big magnolia tree on a street nearby that's just about to burst out into a million flowers. If I had a digital camera I'd share it with you, but alas, I am poor. The magnolia's on Brock street in Montreal West. If you're in the neighbourhood try to go by there. It is truly spectacular.
